About the Presa Canario
The Dogo Canario, otherwise known as the Perro de Presa Canario, is a protective breed, coming from the Canary Islands.  They are devoted to their family, as well as their home.  The breed was created by breeding the Bardino Majorero and the Bulldog or Mastiff, in the 19th Century.

This cross-breeding created a large breed, whether they used the Bulldog or the Mastiff, and gave various coloring, such as brindle, (Silver, Golden, Tiger), or a fawn color, all of which with some type of white markings.

Originally bred for fighting, the breeding of this dog decreased, and cross breeding became much more rampant, minimizing the number of purebred Presa's in the country.  By the 1960's, the German Shepherd was brought into the Canary Islands, and the Presa became nearly extinct.

Since the mid 1970's, enthusiasm for this wonderful breed has grown immensely, therefore reviving the breed in its purest form.

Currently, the Perro de Presa is recognized and registered with the Federation of International Canines, the Spanish Club De Perro De Presa Canario, and most recent, the National Perro de Presa Canario Club.

Despite their size, the Presa Canario is very quiet and well mannered in the home.  With its hard body, and strong will, they are very competitive in weight pulling competitions.  This is the ultimate breed for loyalty, wanting to please their human companion in any way possible.
